After becoming comfortable and proficient in Rhythmic Breathing, the next step to meditation mastery is grounding and running energy.
Just as with energy in general, safety dictates having a solid state of ground to protect from surges and the like.
Grounding and Running Energy is also good for establishing a healthy balance between the two states of consciousness. Both Lower physical thought vibration (towards the earth) and higher frequency vibration (Cosmic and or Crown Chakra) are polarized and balanced, as Ying and Yang, preventing one from being either too aloof, or so grounded in the lower thought process that it becomes a crutch.
Grounding and running energy is also an important stepping stone, introducing the practitioner to the beginning stages of learning to tap, manipulate, and “Feel” energy flow.
Over all it’s a simple meditation that one can strongly benefit from if done on a daily basis. At the very least it can reduce your stress levels as well as start your day off (or end it) with a solid state of balance.
I would recommend you set time aside at least once a day to do this meditation, either before you start your day, or at the end of the day before you go to bed. It is best done after a shower or cleansing.
